It is now the year 79 A.D and I am 29 years old. I am in such a great state of shock that I fear I cannot explain what has just occured adaquetly. Pompeii has been destroyed. A dense black cloud had covered much of the sky and spread around like a flood. There was fire and ashes fell from the sky. Great panic aroused in the people of Pompeii as they they cried out for help but in vain. None but a few came to try and aid them; the ones that did try to help were too late. Much sorrow fills my heart and I cannot dwell to long about this tragedy. May God give strength and peace to all who need it.

Today is a day for mourning and happiness. It is so strange that both happiness and sadness can be somehow felt at the same time. I gave birth today to beautiful twin girls, which is the cause for rejoicing. Alas, only one survived childbirth. Attilia, one of my beautiful baby girls died only minutes after I conceived her. It seems fit to name her Attilia, because her name means has been lost. Many tears and sobs have been shed for her, and my heart as well as my mind is in disarray. It is so hard to continue on living, but I must care for Corinna my other baby girl; the twin sister of Attilia who lived. As I hold Corinna in my arms, my mother comes in to speak to me. She knows I am in pain and attempting to try and comfort me tells the story of how Caesar's daughter, also named Julia lost not only her baby in childbirth, but herself as well. She tells me that although it is alright to be sad that I must continue on living. I have a newborn baby girl to attend to and a bright motherhood ahead of me.

I have very exciting news to share today! Today is my wedding day! It is the year 71 A.D and I am 21 years old. This time of rejoicing has been greatly needed for a while and I am ecstatic. I will wear a plain white gown with a simple veil. I am being married to a man named Caius. He is very loving and caring as well as a Christian. Although our wedding will not be extravagent or have an enormous group of people it will be all that I have ever dreamed of. After the wedding I will move into Caius' insula. I am sad and a bit nervous about leaving the insula close to my family but know I will be well taken care of and able to visit my family often. What a glorious day it is!

My parents had a serious talk with me and my brother today. It is the year 69 A.D. Both me and my brother have moved out of our family insulae but live on the floors near to them. They told us that because of the and growing danger of Christians in Rome there has been a new symbol created that allows Christians in Rome to communicate with one another and discover who they can trust and who their friends are.
When two strangers meet and suspect that they may both be Christians, one would draw a simple curved line. If the second person recognized the symbol they would draw another curveed line creating the form of a simple fish.
This is a safe way to see whether one was a Christian or not because the symbol is simple to draw and can easily be erased if needed. <><
I pray that with this new way of communication Christians may become safer and feel more connected with one another. May we feel the presence of God among us and may he keep us safe from harm.

Tonight I overheard my parents talking in hushed tones about my aunt and uncle. They know God watches over us but are worried about whether our location will be discovered due to their capture. There have been many people who have tried to persecute us but Nero is the biggest one remembered. I can't stop thinking about all the Christian families who are imprisoned or have been killed.
Nascique Vocatur
Incipere esse aliud
Quam quod fuit ante, morique
Desinere illud idem
Cum sint huc forsitan illa
Haec translata illuc, summa tamen omnia constant

And to begin to be something other than what it was before is called to be born and to cease to be that something is called to die. Although that is perhaps transferred to here and this to there, the sum of all, never the less, remains constant

Today I turned 17 years old but I am not happy. It is the year 67 A.D. Today was also the day that my uncle and aunt's family was discovered and persecuted for being Christians. A friend of ours ran to our insula and told us the news. Another family has been betrayed by someone they thought was their friend...
